The Trustworthy Computing (TwC) Group has an immediate opening for an
Accessibility Strategist.

 

Would you like to help Microsoft contribute to the global accessibility
community? Would you like to make a difference in how Microsoft and the
world develop accessible communication technologies? Are you a mature,
technical, experienced professional capable of consulting with Microsoft
product teams to design and implement solutions against industry standards
and other requirements? Do you have experience influencing industry
standards bodies, government organizations and industry organizations? 

 

This new position is focused on broadband and communication technology and
will:

.              Require technical expertise to translate broad, complex,
and/or conflicting international standards into concrete engineering
requirements for Microsoft product groups.

.              Consult with, support and influence product groups on their
strategy to meet these requirements.

.              Work with other technical experts in the TwC Accessibility
team to propose solutions to new requirements.

.              Influence and drive emerging industry best practices and
relevant updates to Microsoft's internal engineering standards.

.              Represent Microsoft externally in key global accessibility
policy and standards efforts.

.              Work with key internal stakeholders to analyze policy
outcomes, determine their impact on business groups and help develop
supporting processes.

.              Provide a flexible work schedule to accommodate travel and
multi-time zone conference calls (in support of a healthy work-life
balance).

.              Require some domestic and international travel.

 

Qualifications: 

.              B.S. degree in engineering, computer science, or similar
field, or equivalent product experience. 

.              Proven product group and/or industry success in implementing
technology standards.

.              Proven success working with an industry or government
standards body. 

.              High proficiency in the following competencies

Awareness, and Confidence. 

.              Ability to represent Microsoft and the complexities of
Accessibility to technical and non-technical audiences - including standards
bodies, government, industry or advocacy groups.

 

Outstanding candidates will have:

.              Product development experience as a developer, senior tester
or technical program manager. Experience working with multiple Microsoft
product teams is a bonus. 

.              Experience anticipating regulatory, market and technology
trends that would require changes to overall product design or standards
strategy, and ability to influence feature teams and management to make
appropriate adjustments, proactively.

.              Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs that
achieve grassroots objectives.

.              Experience managing complex relationships with companies that
are simultaneously our partners and competitors. 

.              Knowledge/experience making software and IP voice, text and
video communications technologies Accessible. 

.              Experience with Accessibility standards and guidelines like
508, 255, CVAA and WCAG.
