I assume that the BIOS recognizes and displays your hard drive as the boot
device. So let's consider the XP options.

Just to do some diagnostics, install a new copy of XP on the drive. Instead
of replacing the existing installation, use a different name for the windows
directory - use WINXP for example. Then see if it will boot properly or not.
I know that this is time consuming, but sometimes it is worthwhile to learn
what it is that is causing the problem. I just went through a new
installation myself to fix the ills of my current install. Of course things
did not go as expected! I do have a stable system now after doing the
install twice.

There is no SATA boot option in the BIOS (That I know of). It's HD, CD
ROM and Floppy. I was surprised at this, as the only drive listed shows
as IDE.
I assume the SATA driver is installed, as the SATA drive shows in
Control Panel.
I think you're on the right track to solve this problem, but I'm not
sure where to look next.
