Deleted partitions can be recovered BUT. When you formatted your C
partition, was it a new partition that you created using the entire had
disk? If so, your data may be toast.

Lets try being optimistic and assume that only the original partition was
formatted but somehow the partition got messed up. In that case, you may use
FDISK, either from DOS/Windows or from the knoppix disk. Using FDISK, you
need to create partitions that are EXACTLY as they were before the trouble
started. If you don't know the original partition information, then you have
a problem.

Once the partitions are re-created, you should be able to access the
information on them. You might need to use a program such as Partition Magic
(commercial) or Ranish Partition Manager (freeware/shareware) to mark the
partitions with the proper file system type (FAT32, NTFS, etc).

This is not the simplest thing to do, but neither is it all that difficult.
It sure is a pleasant feeling when the "lost" information suddenly comes
back to life!

Good luck.

I have 20 GB hard disk that I partitioned with Maxblast into 5
partitions. Later my win 98 operating system got corrupted and I
tried to upgrade to win 2000 without success. In desperation to
restore win 98, I ended up formatting the C partition and lost the
other 4 partitions.
Fortunately this forum suggested that I could recover my data with
knoppix. I have succefully downloaded and created a knoppix bootable
CD. My problem is how to use the bootable CD to recover my data and
the lost partitions.
