    You also need to check if your modem can run without v.90. Some v.90
modems try to connect with v.90, then if you can't connect with v.90 they
try with x2 or k56flex, and if you still can't they try with v34bis. Other
modems go straight from v.90 to v.34bis (at 33600 bps maximum).
    The ISP I used to work with didn't have v.90, so I always connected with
v34 at 33600.
