Rhonda,
I, too, figured he was just trying to make the point as you described. Name and claim it, so called, is way more Biblical, and Scriptural, if taught correctly on the other hand but the way he gently touches on the topic was well done in my opinion.
Phil.

I am on chapter 3 of the book. I think he means we need a relationship before we ask. A real relationship that seeks to know God, not just seeks to get something from Him. The focus is all changed; so that even if we didn't receive the answer we wanted, the cancer goes away, a relationship is mended, a job comes through, we are still able to find joy because we know and love God. I havve always had issues with the "name it, claim it" school of prayer. This seemed to be demanding, or even commanding God to me, and not asking at all.
It is my heart's desire to know "the Real God" and to have my knowing Him make a real difference in how I treat my husband, my children, my neighbor, and even strangers. I want to love God and have that love spill over in to the lives of others.
I do think it is a good book, at least so far.
Blessings! thanks for sharing Phill, I always enjoy reading your thoughts.
