Thanks again for all you knowledge and did notice I had alot of people asking to summarize or that needed more info. too.

1.I take Thorne Bio-Gest with each meal. It contains mostly animal derived
enzymes (ox bile, pancreatin, pepcin) & is very effective in aiding
digestion & decreasing gas production. It helps control diarrhea,
constipation and even helps some people sleep better at night. Go
figure? (I think it helps sleep because it aids in the absorption of
calcium & magnesium.)

I have tried "vegetable derived" digestive enzymes (Similase and
WoBenzyme) and got whopping headaches from them. I learned that the
"vegetable source" is actually mold, which I am extremely sensitive to.
So if you are sensitive to molds, you will want to avoid these.

Enzymes are used to enhance digestion when taken with meals. When taken
between meals, they are perported to enhance many internal biological
processes that require enzymes. I've never been successful using them
this way as every brand I've tried has caused pretty severe stomach
upset...ouch!

2.My 13 year old celiac daughter also has cystic fibrosis. She was diagnosed
with celiac last summer, whereas we found out about her CF when she was 2
months old...so we have been dealing with CF much loner. She takes
artificial enzymes to break down her food because her natural enzymes are
blocked in her pancreas bt the thick, sticky mucus that is a symptom of CF.
She takes Pancrease MT 20's. Again, this is due to her cystic fibrosis,
which I'm told is a distant genetic cousin to celiac. I don't know if they
help with her celiac or not. IT was a very difficult diagnosis because so
many of her celiac symptoms overlap with her CF symptoms. I don't know if
this info is relevant to you in any way, but your question about artificial
enzymes sparked my interest because we've been using them for almost 14
years!

3.HI! I use KAL brand pancreatin. They help break down food by providing the
digestive enzymes that the pancreas puts out. I have taken them for about 9
years and they help a ton. They provide energy since it helps digest food
thus providing energy

4.Get the book The Complete Book of Enzyme Therapy-- by Dr. Anthony
Cichoke-- it is the best.... American Biologics Ultra-inflazyme Forte and
World Nutrition's Vitalzym are 2 of the BEST-- very powerful and systemic
too ( on an empty stomach)

5.I take "Prevail Vitase Digestion Formula" when my gut is acting up (like
after a bout of food poisoning!). Works great to gut down on gas and
bloating. It also helps with GERD and I no longer take Nexium for that.

6.I would suggest you to ask your questions at this other excellent forum:
http://forums.delphiforums.com/celiac/messages/?ctx=16

There are kind and knowledgeable people to answer you, among them doctors.

There also have the Gluten-Free Product List, updated regularly, and moreover, I have voluntarily posted over 1,000 GF recipes.

7.www.enzymestuff.com is a great enzyme website to address specific questions. We take Houston enzymes http://66.137.206.242/webcenter/sites/HNI/Section.asp?SID=3438&N=Products each one of their products addresses specific issues and taking all three products has enabled my son and I to eat many more foods than we previously could. We also take their proteolytic enzymes on an empty stomach to heal our "leaky gut"
