I had a couple of people ask for the brand of the gf oats used in Sweden,
and quite a few people in the first summary on the oats controversy
sounded eager to find a gf source of oats. Ragnar, one of our Swedish
members, kindly sent the name and supplier's address for these oats:

The name of the oats is simply "Sempers havre". The supplier is:

Semper AB

S-105 06 STOCKHOLM
SWEDEN

PS. Havre is the Swedish word for oats.

One of the inquiries was from a representative of the Gluten-Free Trading
Co., LLC, in Milwaukee, WI, who wanted to stock these oats, so maybe we
will soon have gf oats in our part of the world!

Another listmember in California had missed the original question, but
said she had also tried oats, McCann's Irish oats, and had an clear
reaction, although not a horrible one. She feels sure this was due to
contamination. She said, "One of these days, I'm sure, we'll be able to
enjoy gf oats. Then we'll have
the chance to learn how many of us are allergic to them!"

So many of us have multiple food problems that it is not surprising some
of us cannot safely eat oats. Dr. Kasarda said in his presentation that he
considered oat proteins more closely related to corn's than to those in
the group of wheat, barley, and rye. I wonder if those of us who cannot
eat corn safely may be more at risk for oat reactions.

Crystal, I enjoyed your post on "Oat Solutions?" I think that went to the
whole List, so I won't repeat it here.

Thanks again to everyone who responded!
