When you run scandisk do you get a message that there are bad sectors on
your hard drive? Does it interrupt standard scandisk and tell you to run a
"thorough" check in Windows? Blue screens have many possible sources, but
since you've reinstalled Windows, it isn't so likely that it's an OS error.

The computer boots, and you get the blue screen in place of your desktop?
Windows does not run at all? A good starting point would be to take out
your hard drive, install it in another computer (a good friend's) and see if
it works there. If not, you may have bad sectors on your hard drive.
Western Digital has some free online tests for this at their web site,
www.wdc.com, but since you can't get the drive to work you'll have to take
it to a computer shop to be tested. This will probably cost more than
buying a brand new 20 gig, 7200 rpm, ATA 100 drive. See what other
responses you get here, but if it were me I'd go drop $85-$100 on a new
drive unless someone has a miraculous cure for this blue screen.

Can someone please help me? I keep getting the following error when I try
to start up my computer. A blue screen comes up with the following message
(I am renning windows 98SE):

A fatal exception 0D has occured at 017F:BFF83C29. The current application
will be terminated.

What could the problem be and how can I fix it? I have tried scandisk from
dos promt and disc defagment from safe mode. I have also tried reinstalling
windows but it I keep getting the error and then the system crashes. Please
help.
