Jens "The doubts regard whether in limited quantities they're really that
harmful."

There are two ways to look at the harmfulness of grains. First is their
effect on blood sugar, insulin sensitivity and the like (your friendly
Syndrome X diseases). These issues are primarily longer term except
perhaps for the quick weight gain caused by high insulin levels driving
fat into the cells. In this sense, OJ and oats are strangely equally
guilty because of their effects on insulin levels.

As worrysome as Syndrome X is, the second issue with grain consumption,
namely their foreign protein content, is of more immediate concern to me.
Now there are long term issues with foreign proteins, of course. Cancer
is a fine example. But short term effects are allergies, gas, arthritis,
and, of primary importance for me, Attention Deficit Disorder.

I am convinced that, post-grains, I am completed cured of ADD. (Or as
much as one can be when wife, children, family members, and the majority
of your friends are still non-paleo).
