A calorie is the measure of heat created by burning an object in a bunsen burner
in a chemistry lab.

If you want to lose weight, you need to eat according to a specific eating plan
that is designed for weight loss. To my knowledge, there are currently 3
eating plans that are consonant with Paleolithic Eating: Atkins, Zone, and
Protein Power. Atkins doesn't mention Paleo, but it is very easy to "do Paleo"
on the Atkins, since both prohibit about the same things. The Zone mentions
Paleo theory as the basic reason why it works, but nevertheless doesn't prohibit
non-Paleo items.

The latest Protein Power book, however, "Protein Power Life Plan" is now
specifically Paleo - it has 3 levels of eating discipline, and the most rigorous
one is essentially the same as Neanderthin, but with the Eades' other concepts
added in (most of which have to do with ways to compensate for the differences
between modern times and Paleo times).

BTW, if you don't need to lose weight, then just eat Paleo until you notice that
you've gained a little extra weight (which may or may not occur).
