I am posting this message to the Gluten Free Travel Page as well as to
the list.

I just wanted to let people know about some places in Toronto, Ontario,
Canada that supply gluten-free products.

Number one and I think most impressive is an Italian restaurant called
"Il Fornello" specializing in gourmet pizza which has... ta, da...
gluten free pizza crust and pasta. They have a website
www.ilfornello.com which you can visit and check out their "alternative
menu". They have locations throughout the Toronto area and while I don't
think all restaurants have the special menu I hear they all will in the
next year. It's a great place to go with non-celiacs and feel 'normal'
and also not feel restricted in menu choices.

Number two. I believe that this chain is throughout Canada is "Swiss
Chalet" a sort of fast-food restaurant chain specializing in rotisserie
chicken. I have spoken to the head office which sent me out a food guide
which listed fat content, etc. as well as a column showing which menu
items contained 'Gluten'. (McDonalds in Canada also has a food guide
like this). At any rate, they indicate that the chicken and sauce are
GF. The french fries however are not. I usually have the baked potato
with sourcream(gf). My menu guide is a year old so you might want to
call for an update.
The head office phone number is (416) 962-4571.

Number three is the "Specialty Food Shop" located in the Hospital for
Sick Children at 555 University Ave. (416) 977-4360. Has the widest
range of GF products at good prices I have found. Very good place
downtown for visitors to Toronto as you can get things that travel well
like pretzels & cookies as well as stock up on cereal, frozen goods,
rice cakes, crackers, and pasta. They also carry all sorts of flour and
baking mixes.

There are other places one can find GF supplies in Toronto but none as
diverse as the Speciality Food Shop. If anyone is interested in Bake
Shops north of the city of Toronto I can recommend two.

I have no interest in any of these places I just wanted to share.
