Many thanks to the 25 listserv members who responded so helpfully (and so
quickly).
Like so many issues for us, there is no correct answer for everyone.  Some
celiacs seem to absorb Vitamin D perfectly well.  Others were diagnosed with
celiac disease after being found to be deficient in Vitamin D levels.
I think all agree that because Vitamin D is fat soluble, it is difficult for
many of us to absorb.
All say to be sure that any supplement is D3.
The best thing is to find out what works in each individual case.
