Hello Ms. Wells and other map fans.

The best thing about internet maps is you don't have to fold it up after your done. The worst thing about internet maps is they are not all that accessible when using a screen reader. Even when applying magnification to the map, The more magnification used the blurrier the text on the map gets.

Please find below my short list of map sites on the net in no particular order. It would seem the feature that is missing is a button for walking directions. It would seem the map sites servicing Europe my have this feature built in. I did come across a site for London and the UK with this feature. Perhaps some of our members overseas could enlighten us.

Some trip planner sites have this feature built in. These sites are tied into city transit sites; example Seattle http://tripplanner.metrokc.gov/help/atis-help-walk.html.

One major problem is we no longer have walkable communities in the US. The fellow writing his pleafor walking maps said it better them me. "Maps Made for Walking" can be found at the following link: http://cuturl.com?246587

To explore walkable communities go to http://www.walkable.org/

Subject: [VICUG-L] Any Good Web Sites for Walking Directions

  Hello list,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a web site that is similar to Mapquest or Google maps but gives walking instead of driving directions. Frequently they are the same but one way streets can take you unnecessarily out of your way and of course there is no indication as to sidewalks or not. I was just hoping maybe someone has found a better way. Thanks.

  Sherry Wells
