Ok if I remember correctly you can not boot from a "boot disk" in XP.  
If you just want a dos prompt go to the run box and type cmd and hit 
return.  A dos window will open inside of  XP.  XP doesn't use the old 
files to load that earlier versions did. It uses NTLDR and BOOT.INI.
