One of the problems is that, once you follow their instructions to
unsubscribe, they know they have an active email address and you will get
more spam.

Subject: [VICUG-L] getting off an emailing lists

Hello all,

Below is just a particularly annoying example of a spammer, but I want to
get rid of all of the ones that come to me.

I've followed the unsubscribe instructions that usually are at the bottom
of these emails, but guess what? They don't get removed. So here's what I'm
wondering:

1. Aside from trying to unsubscribe by following the spammer's
instructions, is there another way? I've tried hitting "return" and writing
"unsubscribe" in the subject line, as an alternative when the spammer
doesn't have instructions, or when they haven't worked.

2. Do spammers and Internet IPs and the like have to register somewhere? Do
these spammers have addresses that I can go to or what?

3. Is there a higher level that I can go to, like some kind of Internet
police, who can get my spammers to leave me alohave records for this and
all spammers in question?

4. Can a computer expert look at these weird codes on the headers of my
emails, and know who is sending them?

Thanks in advance,
Peter Seymour
