AOL customer service is a pain.
But, I would start with asking friends and families to specifically put your
email address as an ACCEPTED address, if that is an option, or at least set
it up to be filtered to a specific mail box. Then, send a test email to see
if it gets through.
The more info you can get about what and how things are being filtered out,
the better chance to deal with the AOL behemoth.
Let us know what happens.
