Building the computer is out of the question since neither
of us have the expertise to do that. I'm only going to set
it up. It's her first computer (that she's not sharing)
so she wants to spend her money only on what she needs. Her
requirements are like mine so she'll use her computer on
college assignments, research, e-mail, newsgroups, some
graphics, possibly chat, and listen to music while she
works.
I did think
a CD-RW would be useful for saving research, graphics and
maybe some music as well. I don't know whether you can get
freeware for this. Is there a free program that lets you
download large volumes of data quickly?
As for the other freeware, I will definitely get
StarOffice, and maybe Eudora and FreeAgent if she's not
happy with Outlook Express. Friends have also
advised me to use Netscape instead on Explorer because of
security problems but unless I'm mistaken, Download
Managers
don't intergrate with Netscape and also you must have
Explorer if you want to get Windows updates. Am I correct?
