First of all: I did not change the Subject (My June Mail Filter Problem)
since it would not appear in the same thread but what you are proposing
could result in a junk mail problem in June <grin>
I'm sorry,but the logic in downloading unfiltered mail and then trying
to use elaborate methods to get rid of the spam escapes me.
I know you use Windows Mail but just don't download the junk.
There are a couple of things you have to accept:
1.No matter which method you use - you will find good mail in the
spambox and vice versa.
2.Because of this, you will have to intervene and check or correct this
sometimes.
I'll repeat my suggestion:Use the ISP's filter and a mail prechecker.
I don't know if Windows Mail has a pre-check function - if so,use it
before you download any mail.
As an alternative use webmail like Windows Live Mail or GMail.
As to the anti-virus question:If the Trend Micro application is not
compatible with Vista, remove it.
Be aware that removal of these types of applications can be troublesome,
so use one of the best uninstallers I know of and use ,which is Revo
Uninstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/
It will do what most uninstallers can't.(and it's free)
I would not advise to have 2 av programs on your computer.
Apart from the fact that most of them won't even install if another
av program is detected,it is also very troublesome to disable one
completely and then use the second one.
AVG is fine,but why not use one of the best ones,which is Avira?

Don't get hung up on the email virus scanning -even without a specific
email scanning component,the resident av program will detect a virus in
your email.
Practice safe email management like: Don't download spam - Don't open
any suspect mail - Do use a pre-checker.
Even av programs can give false positives - if in doubt use VirusTotal
for a multiple check http://www.virustotal.com/
As to Ray Parish's comments using Thunderbird: I use it as well among
other email collectors - However I don't see the point in downloading
the spam to my computer.Anyway, you know my approach <g>

Thanks for the suggestions. However, my ISP only turns on the spam/junk
mail filter at the customer's request. In my case it is not activated.
I am using Windows Mail.
I did a little more exploring and found that my Trend Micro Antivirus
does scan for spam, but I don't want to deactivate THAT because I don't
want any viruses to get through to my computer. The Trend site says
that this particular program is compatible with all versions of Windows
EXCEPT my Vista! Now this program was installed in my computer at time
of purchase so you'd think they would have know what was going to work
with Vista.
Is it possible to successfully download and install a SECOND antivirus
program, such as AVG, and simply not use the already installed Trend
Micro, unless the AVG has been temporarily turned off? That would give
me a double shot at catching any viruses. I know you can't have them
both running at the same time.
Or should I simply get rid of the Trend Micro and DL AVG? Is their
email virus scanning thorough?
