I've just spent @5K on my dream system.
Asus MBrd,PIII 500, 512MB Micron RAM, 20G HDD, 6xDVD, Teac CD burner,
3Com 10/100PCI NIC, Diamond MX300, Asus TNT AGP vid, USR 56K modem,
Logitec cordless Kb/mouse.
The darn thing locks up constantly,crashes indiscriminately, ect...
I'm running '98 and minium apps (I want to see it stable before I start
loading apps)
After several weeks of problems I purchased Ultra-X Pro Diagnostic
Toolkit, I've ran all the software tests (could'nt get the PCI Hardware
testing board to work, waiting to get together w/ tech supp)
Been on the phone w/ tech supp for most of the systems hardware &
software manufacturers.
One of the several (I won't bore you)symptoms was my sound card would
randomly appear & dissappear (during boot up). Some times it worked
other times not. Tech supp at Diamond suspected the MX300. So I removed
it & lockups, ect.. seemed to be gone except what appear to be typical
'98 problems. Now Explorer won't launch.(it launches in safe mode
though)
I'm contemplating up grading to a Asus P2B-ds w/ PIII 550's just to see
if it will help, I'm going nuts. Any & all suggestions will be
appreciated
