I previously owned an eMachines 420, a friend at work had the identical
machine and my daughter had an earlier model. All suffered the same fate as
yours. I cannot tell you the exact problem but my machine and my daughters
were scrapped and the work colleague asked me to fit a new power supply and
motherboard. A motherboard replacement did not rectify the power supply
problem nor did a power supply rectify the motherboard problem which points
to both components developing problems at the same time or a problem in one
item causes a problem in the other.

I suspect that eMachines are susceptible to power surges ie may be not as
robustly engineered as other machines to withstand the day to day
fluctuations all power supplies undergo. There are other 'conspiracy theory'
ideas out there but, very sensibly, List Admin would not publish such things
or, if they did, we'd all get sued:0)

Michael.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Computer won't start

Ok, my friend has an e-machine and has been working fine for 3 years. All of
the sudden when you press the button to start the computer nothing happens
like it doesn't have power. Checked incoming power and 120 is going to the
computer and opened up the case and you can see a green light on the
computer board which one would think that the power supply is working. So
any ideas why it won't turn on? Could not find any fuse anywhere or any
reset button. thanks, Joe Rydzy
