Hi Gregory,

1) When you say that you've installed the printer on both computers, do you
mean:
a) you've installed the print drivers on both computers?
b) you have physically connected locally on both computers (moving the
printer from one computer to the other)?
c) you have installed the printer on a network that is connected to both
computers?

2) When you try to install the printer as a network printer:
a) Is the printer connected to the network through a print server (if so
what kind)?
b) Is it connected to your network through a parallel port on a router?
c) Is it connected locally to a computer and you're trying to convince
Windows that it's a networked printer?

3) If the printer is networked, do you have the proper IP address entered
and can you ping the address?
a) If through a router, is it's address listed on the DHCP clients table
(did you wait for 5 minutes to allow an IP address to be assigned)?
b) Can you telnet to the printer and verify that the settings are correct
according to the setup manual for networked printers?
c) Is the port correct (usually 9100)?

4) What type of printer is it (network, USB, parallel)?

5) What's the make and model?

6) Has the printer been installed on another computer where it has worked?
Can you re-install it on that computer and see if it is still functioning?
Whas it networked with the other computer or local?

7) Are you using the latest drivers? If so, are there are other printer
drivers installed? Have you checked that you've selected the right printer
drivers for this printer? Does Windows properly identify the printer?
Sometimes you get no joy in Windows unless you load the printer drivers from
the installation disk installation routine and ignore Windows efforts to
find a driver.

8) When you type in the printer name, what exactly are you typing? Is it
the share name?

The folks on this list are good, but you have to provide something to work
with.

        Regards,
        Steve Collins
