I've heard of people doing this with a Slip Streamed XP install CD that
contains the drivers.

That's precisely the problem I had recently, which I never resolved.

So how do you get around that particular can of worms where there is no 
floppy? I tried to force the bios to load sata drivers from a CD which I

inserted during the XP installation process instead of the non-existent 
floppy, but that wouldn't work.

I tried hooking up a temporary floppy, but the computer didn't want to 
recognise it.

I gave up in the end, as I had a sneaking suspicion that the mobo was 
faulty anyway.
