Sounds like a software problem.  Try killing Norton's AV by going to accessories/system tools/system information/tools/system configuration utility/startup tab.  In there scroll down until you find your Norton AV and uncheck the box to keep it from running at startup. You'll need to restart after you click apply and OK.  If that doesn't work, try uninstalling Norton's AV.  It may be another program, but Norton's AV has a rep for conflicting with stuff.
