If it has been installed as a generic 28800 modem you probably want to change the driver to the one specifically for the MT2834BL modem.  You can get it from here:

You will have register (free) to download the driver though.

The modem installed as a standard 28800 modem and the Windows XP home diagnostic shows it is working OK. The phone line in that place is still managed by pulse, not tone. So I configured it that way, however when dialing you can hear the modem is trying to dial by tones, not pulses.  Of course there is an error because the line doesnt support tone dialing.
