Hello Maxi,

Reinstalling Windows XP is a simple and straightforward procedure. You can
start the procedure by inserting the Dell XP CD in the CD/DVD drive with
Windows running. On the first screen select "Install Windows XP". On the
second screen, "Welcome To Windows Setup", for the installation type select
"New Installation (Advanced)" for a clean install. Proceed from there and
setup will restart the computer and continue with the installation. When you
reach the screen where you select the file system, I suggest you select the
option for the quick format using the NTFS which you now have.

I don't recall if activation is needed with the Dell installation. If it is
required, it is a quick and painless procedure and usually accomplished over
the Internet in less than a minute the first few times. I don't recommend
attempting to circumvent the activation procedure. It's not worth the effort
and risks involved as XP can be activated an unlimited number of times.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Reformat Windows XP

I wont to reformat my XP home edition system. I have reformatted windows 98
many times, but have no experience with XP reformatting. I have read several
articles & became confused. One said I needed to know my file allocation
system. Another said I may have to re-activate XP. I have the info to avoid
this step. My question is, will reformatting XP be equivalent to 98? Both
computers are Dell's.

Computer I wont to reformat:
Dell Dimension 2400
Windows XP home edition
File allocation NTFS

I am not having any problems, I am one of those neat freaks that like to
reformat & start with a fresh running system.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. This is a task I am determined to
complete.

Thanks in advance for all your help,

Maxi
