Didn't receive any replies but solved problem and want to pass along to
other who may have ThinkPads. There is an update to their Win95 and DOS
ThinkPad Features Program dated 6/15/98 which fixes this problem as well as
upgrading their Features program to a "ThinkPad Configuration" program.
The ThinkPad (760E at least) uses this program instead of the traditional
"BIOS settings at startup" for most BIOS type settings.

Maybe other ThinkPad problems will be fixed with this upgrade/patch.
