I handle a network with a number of fairly new IBM Netvista PCs in
mini-tower cases. The harddrive is mounted vertically just inside the front
panel on these PCs and seems to work just fine. I would guess that
gyroscopic effects at 5400-7200 rpm would more than compensate for gravity
any way you wanted to mount a harddrive.
