Alan,

If it doesn't show up in "My Computer", then it does not have a
recognizeable file system on it. That is why "Disk Management" shows it as
unallocated. If these are brand new drives, then you must format a
filesystem on the drive before it can be used. This also implies
partitioning it. Both of these can be done in "Disk Management" by right
clicking on the drive and selecting the appropriate option.

If these disks were already used successfully on another computer, but the
disk still shows all partitions as "Unallocated", then there may be a
problem with the USB interface that is preventing the disk from being fully
recognized, or they used a "foreign" filesystem that Windows does not
understand.

Subject: [PCBUILD] see hard drive

I've bought a program for working with IDE hard drives. I use an external
drive
kit. I have 6 assorted drives to check and using USB, the computer shows
the toolbar icon for removable item, but it's not showing up on MY
COMPUTER,
It does show up as unallocated in disk management. Does anyone know how
to make it show as a removable device in MY COMPUTER ?? with a letter
designation ?? Thank you for your help, AL SMITH
