I'm confused at the moment re: USB.

On an older machine with Win 98SE I did not have USB capability so I
installed an Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
card that has external connectors (two port) along with the
appropriate driver software. When I take the System Properties >
Device Manager route, the card is displayed under the Universal Serial
Bus controllers tree (if you will), just before the tree entry of USB
Root Hub. Now this is basically USB 1.0/1.1 capability, but it seems
to work as I use this connector to do backups to a OneTouch hard disk
drive.

I have another machine which has W2K on it with SP4 installed. I was
thinking I had USB connectors on it, but ... after closer inspection,
it does not. Sooooo ... for the fun of it, I took a look at the Device
Manager display (via the System Properties route) and, low and behold,
I found that under the Universal Serial Bus controllers tree structure
(for lack of a better term) the following listed:

USB 2.0 Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller
VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller
VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller

Upon further inspection of the additional entries related to each USB
Root Hub, I read/saw 4-port available (USB 2.0 Root Hub) and 2-port
available (USB Root Hubs) and apparently all the necessary drivers
installed. Sooooooo ... it would appear I need to open up this box and
locate where I can connect USB connectors to the motherboard and the
case so I can use this capability. Am I close here ... or am I all
wet?

Thanks in advance,

Bo Dirigo
