I, also, have never seen this type of extension. But Dell sometimes do 
things in a non-conventional way which can make them difficult/expensive to 
work on.

Try renaming the Driver setup files with just a simple  .exe extension, and 
see what happens.  It is not normally necessary to create separate 
partition or virtual drives for motherboard drivers.

If everything is running OK, you might not even need them, though I'm 
guessing you probably don't have any sound.
