Average-normal fasting glucose is 87 mg/dl.  "Average-normal" does not
necessarily implied "best" or "desired"  however.

82 mg/dl does seem good, and not suggestive of insulin resistance.

Here's some more reference ranges:

FASTING BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS
* average (normal) - 87 mg/dl (range: 75 - 100)
* pre-diabetes - 110 -125 mg/dl
* diabetes - 125 mg/dl or higher (updated standard; previously 140 (or
greater))
* hypoglycemia - under 50 or 70 mg/dl (two different standards)
