Last year I started donating blood, at LifeSource, at their maximum rate (1 pint whole blood every 8 weeks) and my iron levels dropped like a rock from my usual range of aprox. 85-115. Lab normal here is considered to be 40-155 ug/dL.

At that point I stopped donating blood, discovered paleo, started eating red meat almost every day, and took an iron supplement for a few weeks (15mg of iron per day from 300mg Iron Protein Succinylate).

I will probably now go back to donating blood again a few times a year.
