Todd,
Thanks about the info on liver dumping.  Your comments
about the 'dawn phenomena' brings to mind something
that concerns me at times.  Perhaps you have some
light you or someone else on this list could shed on
the metabolic mechanisms at work.  I tend to wake up
in the middle of the night after 4 hours of sleep
regarless of what I eat.  I usually associate this
with breathing problems from allergies or asthma. 
Usually I can go back to sleep right away.  If I have
been avoiding all carbohydrates (grain, starches,
fruit) for a period of time then I find that often I
will wake up several times or I will wake up and not
be able to go back to sleep.  This also used to happen
when I was in the habit of eating beans, sweet
potatoes or winter squash on a regular basis.
Additionally, few years back I had a GTT done because
I was noticing heart palpitations after eating grapes
or cashews in the afternoon.  I think it was a 4-hour
test.  After drinking the gluose solution my BG level
dropped really low.  The nurse called to see if she
should stop my test.  I remember end the test slightly
early although I don't remember how much my blood
sugar came back up.

There is something known as the "dawn phenomenon,"
which is a rise in BG in the morning, even though one
has eaten nothing since the previous evening's dinner.
