I often drove a tractor and operated farm machinery. Many times we
would stop the machines to let some animal get out of the way, but
inevitably many were killed that were too small to see, or that
hunkered down and didn't run so that we never knew they were there.

When making hay we would often find small animals scooped up by the
machine, especially snakes. There is no way to avoid it unless you are
willing to starve.
