As an experienced outdoorsman (who has also done a bit of survival training) I can state that starting a fire, if the conditions are right, is not hard. Banking a fire to keep it going for days on end is child's play.

I would not consider myself an expert firestarter by any means. I have seen others, far more experienced than I, make me look like an fumbling idiot at it.
