"Last year alone, doctors wrote 189 million prescriptions for $12
billion of antidepressants ... After 14 weeks, two thirds of
patients still hadn't improved ... After 14 weeks, about 25% of the
patients who chose to switch drugs and about 30% of the patients who
chose to add a drug reached remission." (I read that as at most 22%
improved - 2/3 were offered to switch or continue, assuming none
chose to simply quit, 30% of 2/3 is just under 20%, that's after 28
weeks, 60% of a year. (There isn't data cited for what percent of
depressions might just go away on their own after 28 weeks.) And the
message of the story is to stick with it until you find the right
drug. Sylvia)
