our bigger problem has been our differences in the end objective of our
efforts. Our biggest problem is the assumption that our goals/objectives
are after all one and the same - no, no, they're not!
Reelecting Yahya and/or replacing him with X or Y are all difference from
one and another and each will give us different Gambia. In addition Dr.
Saine or someone else heading Diaspora Contribution is neither our solution
nor a deterrent to our purpose. The critical role of the Diaspora has to be
advocacy, influencing, fund raising and process facilitation. We can't
dictate and if we try it will not work.
I'll neither help Yahya's reelection efforts nor will I do such for X or Y.
Goodness this is an individual choice that do not undercut my civil
responsibilities/duties.
Our only communality - is our shared equity of the republic. This is a
concept that has a practical meaning. That's what we were supposed to be
from 1965 to 1970 to date. The lack of that practical application is the
root of everything that's wrong with the management of our land.
With wisdom we should all take a step back and look forward to where we
want to go in relation with where we are from.
The outcome of such exercise - 'A Democracy Vision'. Such program has
nothing to do with the next president except the struggle will continue
when s/he come into office. That program start to focus and demand for
change with whoever is in office today.
Who will do this work - 'A National Face' of our struggle. The
qualification here will highly depend on purpose and expertise. Notice that
our purpose will closely sit with someone in-country than someone in
Michigan. There is no short supply of such in-country individuals with
needed expertise.
Positions for or against one effort or another do not advance our cause
much.
Let us be Gambians first and foremost - A Sovereign Republic!
We can do this!
