Thanx for sharing Cousin Fakoo Fakoo. I encourage those Gambians who haven't made the switch yet to NOT wait until the ricketty dinghy begins to sink. We welcome the defectors and we congratulate Hon. Shyngle Nyassey on his adoption as honorary father of the Sami women and villages.

Haruna.

Breaking News: Gambia: UDP Welcomes Another Batch Of APRC Defectors

UDP Welcomes Another Batch Of
APRC Defectors
As Over 800 APRC Supporters In Sami Constituency Defected To The UDP
By Staff Reporter Bakary Gibba, Banjul
BANJUL, THE GAMBIA—About eight hundred Ruling APRC supporters in Sami Constituency on Saturday switched their allegiance to the main opposition United Democratic Party, ahead of the country’s September 2011 Presidential elections. The massive defection, the first of its kind, took place during a political rally, in which the UDP Propaganda Secretary Momodou Syngle Nyassi was adopted as “FATHER” by the Women of Sami Medina.
It was a historic day, as APRC defectors openly lamented about the maladministration which had rocked this impoverished West African country. They renounced their support for President Jammeh, and his leadership. The defectors said one of the reasons they abandoned the APRC “sinking” ship was due to its poor leadership—characterized by institutionalized corruption, and gross rights violations. They said Mr. Jammeh’s terror campaign has no boundary, and of late he is going after his own supporters.
In Sami Medina 92 APRC supporters defected to the UDP, while in Sami Pachonki 300, APRC militants turned their back against dictator Jammeh. In Njala Toro, a predominantly APRC stronghold, about 250 ruling party supporters switched their allegiance to the UDP. Sami Madiyana, was also another defection showdown with 15 men, 26 women and 36 youths, all saying “BYE, BYE TO THE APRC.”
The majority of the APRC defectors complained about the leadership gap in this country. They are not convinced that under Yahya Jammeh’s rule Gambians will enjoy freedom, basic liberties, human rights, and the rule of law. They could be seen shedding tears on the podium—calling for political change in The Gambia. They regretted supporting a man, who has transformed the country into his personal property, and kingdom.
Sami constituency, is the home locality of the UDP leader Ousainou Darboe, who hailed from Doboe. The regime infiltrated the area by employing politics of “cash” and intimidation to lobby political support. But it appears that the residents of Sami had embarked on a new political shift—with Di-heart APRC supporters defecting to the opposition.
In welcoming the APRC defectors, UDP leader Ousainanou Darboe, hailed the former APRC militants for joining a party that will guarantee their democratic rights, and freedoms when voted into office come September. Mr. Darboe told the supporters to feel at home, as they will be treated as bonafide members of the UDP. He says the UDP is a Government in waiting and come September this bad administration under the leadership of Yahya Jammeh would be sent packing.
"The UDP is a party for all Gambians, and whosoever believes in democracy, the rule of law and humanity is indeed welcome to join us." said Darboe adding that Gambia’s liberation is imminent, as the country is being presided over by people of questionable characters.
For his part, Momodoulamin Syngle Nyassi, the UDP Propaganda Secretary thanked the women of Sami Medina for reposing trust in him by adopting him as a father. He said he was very delighted with the women’s move. He called on Gambians to remain united so that the despotic Jammeh regime would be declared null and void in the coming poll. He says the regime has lost its legitimacy in the ruling this country in view of its hostile nature against citizens, and poor leadership. He observed that with unity, and commitment change is inevitable in The Gambia.
The UDP National President Dembo Bye Force Bojang, Hon Lamin Ceesay and a host of speakers all pledged their support and readiness to rally behind their party leader to effect political change in this country.
