BREAKING NEWS:CHARLES TAYLOR DEPORTED-JAMMEH OTHERS PANICKING!!!!
Authorities in Nigerian have confirmed the deportation of the disgraced Liberian warlord and President Charles Taylor to his native country Liberia, after years in exile in Nigeria. Taylor is supposed to be handed to the United Nation War Crimes tribunal in Serra Leone to face charges ranging from crime against humanity, maiming and killing of Liberians.

Mr. Taylor’s former government was linked to the fuelling of the Liberian and Sierra Leonean decade long war, which led to the killing of children, women and the old. Some had their hands chopped by the drugged rebels, who vandalized properties and raped women in the mano river region.
Mr. Taylor’s previous attempts to escape from his host through the route to Cameroon was frustrated by the Nigerian police, who launched a man hunt to get him arrested. News reaching the Freedom Newspaper say the disgraced Liberian leader has been handed to the Liberian authorities and is now awaiting to be handed to the UN backed War Crime tribunal in Sierra Leone.
It would be recalled that Mr. Taylor’s co accused former Sierra Leonean RUF rebel leader Foday Sonko died in custody. Taylor’s deportation is highly welcomed by the African community and pro democracy activists across the globe. This observers say, will send a warning to other dictators trying cling to power come what may. That the days of impunity are over and dictators like Taylor will leave to regret why they committed such atrocities against humanity.
Many West African Nationals, were affected by the United Nations travel ban, which was imposed on certain individuals from traveling abroad. This was attributed to the support they allegedly extended to rebels in Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Gambia’s Baba K Jobe, a prominent politician, businessman and close associate of President Yahya Jammeh was one of those affected by the UN travel ban. President Yahya Jammeh’s own plane, the new Millennium, which Baba was given the power of attorney to operate was linked to the transportation of arms and the sale of blood diamonds. The said Presidential jet was registered in the name of the office of the President and featured prominently on the UN indictment report.
The handing over of Taylor to the Sierra Leonean court, according to many observers, will likely tear the continent apart, as many big guns risked being implicated by the former warlord. Mr. Taylor was a personal friend and brother of Gambian dictator. Many believed that his down fall will affect his onetime brother whose jet was linked to gun running and diamond sale.
While Taylor received no welcome today in Monrovia amidst public anger against his past atrocities, Gambia’s indicted war crime suspect Baba Jobe, is languishing in jail at the Mile Two Central prisons in Banjul. We hope and pray that the Liberian President Madam Sirleaf will asked The Gambian authorities and other nations affected by this UN report to hand over suspects. These people need to join Taylor in Freetown without any further delay. The UN should pass a resolution to compel nations to hand over indicted nationals.
President Obasanjo, has done what is expected of him by handing over Taylor. Other states should follow suit before it is too late. Baba Jobe, we are made to understand, have a lot to reveal about President Jammeh’s jet. There is this talk that Jobe risked losing his life, in view of the damaging state secrets he is posed to expose if extradited to Sierra Leone.
Madam Sirleaf should start dispatching correspondence to Banjul, before Jobe will be declared unfit to attend the said court. We say preserve the life of Jobe in the interest of humanity. The Salone and the Liberian people want to see justice in this crime against humanity. Decent Gambians also do not want their country’s image to be smeared in such dirty schemes perpetrated by war criminals.
