EDITORIAL:IS THIS A WITCH HUNT OR A FAKED REBELLION?
        EDITORIAL
Facts are gradually emerging on the government’s bogus coup story. The release of the two top army officers Major Ebrima Bah and Captain Famara Jammeh, raises more doubts in the minds of Gambians. Remember, the two were repeatedly mentioned by their fellow alleged coupists in their GRTS testimonies. From now on, Gambians will judge for themselves about this so called coup. It looks like a witch hunting campaign directed at perceived government opponents.

We are also hearing the arrest of lawyer Antouman Gaye, Deen and others. Immigration boss Musa Mboob, who was arrested has also been released and was back to work. Gradually, all the detainees will be released one by one, as there is no material evidence linking them to this capital offence being bandit by Jammeh and his cronies.
As stated time and time, the Freedom Newspaper is against coups in all its forms, but will not hesitate to speak its mind on issues of this nature. We firmly believed that Jammeh is suffering from crisis of confidence. His actions these days suggested that he is living in a state of fear, as his “Jalangs” hinted about the elapse of his regime. In the process, he is going after anybody whom he suspect of being a threat to his administration. Fellow Gambians, this is the reality. Jammeh’s Kanilai “Jalangs” are wild these days. The man doesn’t know who will replace him, but he is on his way out come October. The army boys, should give the democratic process a chance. Change is inevitable.
We gathered that Jammeh is very upset about the reportage of the so called coup by the Freedom Newspaper. That his propaganda mechanism style was being defused by this leading news medium. His sponsored papers both at home and abroad cannot succeed in taming this widely read paper. The good news is that the Freedom Newspaper print outs are being circulated in government offices, markets, Lumos, and provincial Gambia. This is no gimmick. We are well read in the Gambia, as our current news hits suggested.
Jammeh can censor the local media and not Freedom. We are here to expose his lies and deception campaign. We have no regrets for exposing the lies being peddled about this coup that never was. Let the NIA continue to interpret our reports and give feed backs to Jammeh. This paper is here to stay come what may, God willing. You can black list us in your hit list files. We will tell the truth, no matter who is affected.
Gambians don’t deserved this harassment and humiliation spearheaded by the unpopular Yahya government. These arrests, torture, false imprisonment will not saved Yahya form going. Yahya got to go soon. The writings are on the wall for all to see.
The same Yahya Jammeh, doubted Lang Tombong Tamba’s loyalty in the recent past and the Singhateh brothers. Desperate Jammeh is running out of people to appoint and he resorted to recalling Lang, a man believed to be very humbled and down to earth. The Freedom Newspaper gathered that Lang Tombong, initially turned down the position of Army Chief, when offered to him by desperate Yahya. State House sources say Jammeh told him that whether he likes or not, he must take over from fugitive Ndure Cham. Chey! Now it is forced appointment. Jammeh is done for good.
As the situation stands, Lang is serving without certainty about job security and his personal safety. That Jammeh, might as well woke up one morning and frame him like he did to his fallen colleagues in the army. One thing is evident however, Lang Tombong is a no nonsense man we learned. He preferred to be fired than to be used to kill Gambians on Jammeh’s forced rule style. It is a matter of time, but Lang will not stay long in that hot seat. Even though he is from the same ethnic group with Jammeh, the man don’t just trust him, period. He was moved on numerous times from the State House by Jammeh.
For Peter Singhateh, we feel sorry for this trained army pilot. Jammeh, is on the verge of discarding the Singhatehs. His recent appointment as Deputy Chief of Staff, seems to be a ploy to get rid of the Singhatehs. Jammeh is working very hard to get them into his bait with the ultimate aim of sending them packing. Time will tell sooner or later.
Most of the Army’s trained officers are gone. Militarily this is not good for our country. If the current trend continues our army will be reduced to a “boys scout” army. They will be there as ceremonial soldiers, but in reality they are not soldiers. What a sad state of affairs. God save The Gambia, form Yahya’s repressive rule. We rest our case.
