Mali : le nouveau président menace les combattants du Nord d’une “guerre totale”

Le président malien de transition, Dioncounda Traoré, a menacé jeudi les rebelles touareg et groupes islamistes armés qui ont pris le nord du pays d’une "guerre totale et implacable" s’ils refusent de "rentrer dans les rangs". 
The transition president of Mali, Dioncounda Traore, has on thursday threatened the Tuareg rebels and their associated armed Islamist gangs who have overrun North Mali, with "total and relentless war" if they refuse to surrender".


"J’ai conscience d’être président d’un pays en guerre", a lancé M. Traoré dans un discours à l’occasion de son investiture à Bamako.
Il a appelé "avec insistance et avec fermeté" les groupes armés du Nord à "revenir dans les rangs, à arrêter les exactions, les pillages, les viols, à quitter les cités qu’ils ont occupées".
"I understand I am president of a nation at war", declared Dr. Traore in a speech he gave on the occasion of his swearing-in in Bamako.
He issued a stern warning to the armed gangs of North Mali calling on them to "cease and desist with the pillory, rapes, and other atrocities and to leave the occupied cities".


S’ils refusent, "nous n’hésiterons pas à mener une guerre totale et implacable et à bouter Aqmi (Al-Qaïda au Maghreb islamique), les trafiquants de drogue et les preneurs d’otages hors de nos frontières", a-t-il averti.
If they refuse, "we will not hesitate to engage in total and relentless war to route out AQMI (Al-Qaa'Ida of the Islamic Maghreb), drug traffickers, and the hostage-takers", he cautioned.
 

"Nous préférons la paix, mais si la guerre est la seule issue nous la ferons avec notre armée. Nous serons tous derrière elle", a-t-il affirmé.
Il a par ailleurs rendu hommage à "l’engagement ô combien patriotique" de la junte qui avait pris le pouvoir à Bamako le 22 mars, et qui se retire en vertu d’un accord avec la Communauté économique des Etats d’Afrique de l’Ouest (Cédéao).
"We prefer peace to war, but if necessary, we will conduct war with our army. We will close ranks behind our military", he posited. President Traore paid hommage to the gallant and patriotic army interventionists who have effected a change of government in Bamako on March 22nd and who have honored the agreement with ECOWAS.
