(http://www.nationalpartnership.org/site/R?i=3ugyPS0k21S_D98eQ6xrwg..) Dear Haruna,

You must hear the _story_
(http://www.nationalpartnership.org/site/R?i=uBZWs0JKeAnkR9X5TCJW3w..) of Nahomie Nercure.

We recently reported on Nicholas Kristof’s New York Times opinion piece “
_Pregnant (Again) and Poor_
(http://www.nationalpartnership.org/site/R?i=_xRpBkua1BTjy0g2hYyZBw..) ” — that featured Nahomie’s heart-breaking story —
in the _Women’s Health Policy Report_
(http://www.nationalpartnership.org/site/R?i=5ALOJv0PDAHqtAD0kTVA9Q..) .

Nahomie is pregnant, 30, and lives in Haiti with her nine children in
extreme poverty. Her family resides in a $6-a-month rental “shack” with no
food, and some of her children have no clothes.

By United Nations estimates, Nahomie is one of 200 million women around
the world who have an unmet need for safe and effective contraception —
which results in as many as 80 million unwanted pregnancies annually, 19
million abortions and 150,000 maternal deaths.

And, as Kristof points out, U.S. and international efforts to fight global
poverty can’t succeed until women like Nahomie have better access to basic
family planning services.

_What do you think? _
(http://www.nationalpartnership.org/site/R?i=ID8-330aCNqs_gjXq2wlqg..)

Should the United States provide more contraceptive services in developing
nations to help women like Nahomie and fight global poverty?

Sincerely,
