Is it change in the air blowing or is this another hoax of calling our media
chiefs only to blast and threaten them to report positive stories about the
government?. Whatever it is,* *it remain to be seen that Jammeh is serious
about finally given the fourth arm of government a free space to flourish.

Let's hope for good outcome... See editorial from our sister paper
Jollofnews. *Keeping our fingers crossed that change has somehow hit our
shores.*

*As President Jammeh invites media chiefs for talks
JollofNews -** *An encouraging wind of change seems to be blowing in Gambia,
where news coming in says President Yahya Jammeh has proposed a meeting with
heads of the various media outlets in the country.
The relationship between the media and the government in Banjul symbolizes
Gambia’s seemingly unbeatable record as the most unfriendly to free
expression – hence endless reports of human rights violations.
But, as it appears now, all this is likely to come to an end; that is of
course if the proposed meeting between Jammeh and media chiefs doesn’t only
become a reality, but also helps set in a new and acceptable chapter for all
sides.
“… it was just a follow up to the earlier meeting the media chiefs had with
the New Press Director Fatou Camara and this one is purely with the Big
Man,” a source told Jollof News this evening, on condition of anonymity.
Up until this period, however, Jollof News has been unable to confirm this
as every effort to reach the new press director since news of her
appointment came into light have so far failed to get any response. We do
hope, however, that this is true as it is all the country needs – freedom of
expression, equal treatment of the media and related democratic reforms.
There is every reason to speculate about the timing of this development,
given unfolding situations in the region and beyond, and also given that
elections are just at the corner in Gambia. But given that this is what is
right for the Gambia today, if by ignoring the urge for conjecture can help
take us to our desired destination, so be it.
Meanwhile, fingers’ crossed!
