I receive the excellent book of poetry by Dr Momodou Sallah last week. I
gave the book to my son to read it first. He read couple pages and came to
me saying 'Baba, I think this is meant for grown ups'. I laughed. Dr
Sallah's book is riveting, compelling and hey contain some mild mature
themes. I will recommend it to all. Hopefully, very soon, the book will be
a topic of discussion. Fascinating ideas. I then handover Dr Galleh's book
'Mandelas other chidlren' to him. He then turn around and ask, "who is Baba
Jallow"? I said, go read the bio in the book.
I hope many us parents with kids in Diaspora can encourage our children to
read books by our brothers and sisters. Although, Gambian writers then to
be shy with their work, we can seek the books out, especially with kindle
versions. This will inspire them, as the mentality and mindset in the west
is more discouraging for our children. Thanks Dr Sallah for the book. I
hope we will see a children version of your fascinating poetry mind.
