Kathy,
You would know definitely it was the hammers if the hammers are staying up
close to the strings and the keys themselves are not sticking down or coming
up very slowly.

I am not sure that you can do something yourselves without some step by step
coaching.  I could call you at night after 9PM or on week ends and talk you
through it.
