Two November opportunities related to making e-learning more accessible to
students with disabilities and, at the same time, making creating
accessibility easier for faculty, instructional designers and other content
providers.

1. EASI has an instructor-led, month-long online course, Barrier-free
E-learning which is part of the Certificate in Accessible Information
Technology program. The course is aimed at content designers and their
administrators and support staff. Most online learning happens inside a
courseware management system. That system is responsible for most of the
standards and requirements for Web accessibility which lessens the burden
on faculty. We believe that fewer than half a dozen access issues remain
to impact the content created by most faculty. We also believe that
faculty can use the Microsoft Office tools they know and use in such a way
to meet these requirements. This course aims at showing how course content
can be made largely accessible with minimal technical know-how or
skill. (The course is online and largely asynchronous. Read more and

Also during November, EASI will be hosting 4 live, interactive Web
conferences on making accessible documents with PDF. Karen McCall has
published on the topic and is on the beta testing team for Adobe. There
will be 4 hour-long Web conferences on Tuesday afternoons all at 2 PM
Eastern. Read more and register online for this fee-based Web conference
series at:
