Good evening all,

I am currently in the process of putting together an argument for medical
coverage of celiac related food expenses to present to my company’s HR
department. In the past I have successfully gotten them to cover the cost
differential between regular and celiac food items in the flexible
spending account. The basic guidelines I used then were the IRS
publications that allow for Celiac’s to deduct the difference above
regular pricing and what a celiac pays, as well as shipping, and some
travel to specialty food stores. For those of you that are not aware, the
difference between regular bread (for example) at $1 per loaf, and gluten
free bread at $5 a loaf, is a deductible medical expense.

On to my question. Can everyone out there that knows of additional
resources besides the IRS publications please email me. I am aware of a
Pediatrics association position paper, but don’t have a copy. I am
looking for all information you can provide me that might be relevant to
getting medical coverage of celiac related expenses for my daughter and
son. When in doubt send me the reference, and I will sort through it. If
you have advice or personal experiences you want to share I am open to
all. I will summarize the information and repost in a few weeks.

Thanks in advance

Craig Belser
