Hi,

What does everyone think about a supplement called, ""glutenease?" A friend
sent me the information below, which she got from an online site.

Thanks!

Susan

I used to work in a vitamin and supplement store and if you know the
manufacturers and their manufacturing and testing procedures, then you can
trust the companies. Some are not reputable and I wouldn't waste my money on
them. The store I worked in was owneded by an individual and he personally
went to the plant of each brand we carried, had private testing done on
their products and knew where they got their ingredients. I will rely on
those any day over something the FDA has deemed safe.

Enzymatic Therapy is a reputable (one of several) company with excellent
products. (And, no, they aren't paying me to write this.) And this product
is a good product if you take it for what it is made for just like any other
medication.

It is not a pill that will allow you to go out and eat a delivery pizza and
wash it down with a nice pale ale. What it does help with is with situations
of being out at a restaurant and having some uncertainty about the
possibility of cross contamination. With me, a couple of crumbs falling in
my salad can make me sick as a dog.

What the pill will do is help prevent a full reaction from a couple of
unseen crumbs or the like in your food. If I suspect/know of
cross-contamination, I will take a gluten specific enzyme such as this and
am not worse for wear.

Yes, it is a danger that people think they can get awa with just the pill
and not have to watch the diet. But more than that, what needs to be
realized is that even with the enzyme, trying to digest the protein is a
stressor to the body. Science doe not understand the full reaction process
of the autoimmune system and you don't know what harm you might be doing.
