I've been wanting to ask the list's advice regarding having my 4
daughters tested (ages 12-18). I'm biopsy-diagnosed and my grandfather
had it. Our small support group is planning on having a blood screening
through the U of Maryland research project and I have been planning on
taking the kids to that. Problem is... a GI who seems to be very
knowledgeable of CD and who I saw once as a patient says that as long as
they aren't having any symptoms, don't test them. He thinks that it
would be too hard for them to follow the diet at their age (if any were
found to be celiac). In other words, leave well enough alone. Of
course I don't want any of them to have CD, but even at this age when
symptoms often aren't present, wouldn't they still be doing damage to
their gut if they had the disease?

I guess this question is similar to Krista's. The experts say to test
all first-degree relatives, but at what age do you test your children
and also do you re-test so many years later or wait for symptoms?

Thanks for any help and advice - you guys are great!
