I've recently been able to claim g/f food items with a health care
reimbursement account established through my husband's employer Eastman
Kodak.  This account allows us to put aside pre-tax dollars for use in
paying medical bills not paid for by our HMO.  I feel this is a step in
the right direction toward  educating insurance companies that  this
diet, perscribed by a doctor,  should not be considered a "food
supplement", but rather a medical diet much like a diabetic  or a diet
formula for young children who cannot digest protein.
 
In the event you are an employee of Kodak, or with a company who offers
a similar benefit, I encourage you to look into it.  It definitely made
a difference when I mentioned the tax rulings of the  I.R.S.  By  the
way, they deduct the full amount of the food item, not simply the
difference between a gluten item and a non-gluten item.
